These exciting clients were open to almost anything. They had a passion for art and were craving something colorful, abstract, and bold for their backyard. In order to meet these high expectations, we drew inspiration from a prominent rock formation located in a nearby wilderness park in Trabuco Canyon called Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. The “Red Rock Canyon” formation was the perfect muse and we based the design, color, and layering of the rock formations off of a photo taken while climbing the red rocks in this wilderness park. Our goal was to create a landscape that would act as a living mural; one that will change and grow over seasons and seconds. The slope of the landscape provides a great display for the mural and is accentuated by sculptural plant material. This mural becomes active with lizards, butterflies, birds and blooms, creating a fun landscape to enjoy and engage with over time.
