The name Koheid (pronounced “co” “hyde”) is an amalgam of special places, events and people, and represents our desire to design for an intersection of people, place, and culture in our spaces.

What is the difference between landscape designers and landscape architects?

A landscape architect has a minimum of 6 years combined education and experience, and has to pass a series of national exams as well as a state-specific exam. They have authority to draft construction documents and construction details, specifications for built elements like walls, steps and structures, and any plan involving site grading or drainage without using another license, such as a contractor’s or architect’s.
Landscape designers are able to complete conceptual design plans and planting plans for single family residences in California but do not have the education requirements or licensing exams.
What is the advantage of using Koheid versus a landscape designer or design-build company?

Koheid not only has extensive experience and knowledge to complete your project, we are also able to submit plans to necessary governing bodies (such as cities, counties, fire authorities, and homeowner associations) with our licensure.
Design-build landscape firms will often not charge a line item for the landscape design because their profit is built into the construction of the project. Koheid doesn't sell construction, so nothing in the design is there to make the installer more money. During the build, we act as your third-party advocate: we review the contractor's work against the plans and catch problems before they're buried in concrete. Our construction documents are detailed enough that several contractors can bid on the same project, and that allows you to get “apples to apples” bids on your project.
If you want one contract, a fast start and a simpler project, design-build can be a good choice. Koheid is the better fit when the project is complex: a hillside, a pool, structural hardscape, city approvals, or a seven-figure budget where independent oversight protects your investment.

Our Story
Koheid Design was founded in 2016 by husband and wife duo Travis and Aubree Gramberg. After working for a large landscape architecture firm and tackling the world of large commercial projects and parks, Travis set out to create a space where he could merge the pursuit of his passions (art, ecology, and design) to create substantial value for his clients. With Travis' talent in creating beautiful and thoughtful spaces, and Aubree's experience as an executive in the real estate industry, Koheid has been able to evolve into a growing team of designers. We feel lucky to be able to continually build a company that is beneficial for all stakeholders, and look forward to working on increasingly diverse and unique projects. In their free time, Aubree and Travis enjoy traveling the world and spending time with their three sons and two rescue dogs.
